I'm happy to tell you Joyce's surgery (radical hysterectomy) was done this morning without any complication. It took longer than expected because of continual bleeding. Later the surgeon said that adenomyosis might have been a cause and that hysterectomy was a right decision from that point of view too. Thankfully it was done laperoscoplicly, not abdominally. So a bit less invasive and would shorten the recovery time. I might have missed some medical details since I'm not there and heard indirectly, but it gives you an idea. Our friend Casey is a nurse, and she's there with Joyce.
I will be travelling to Bangkok tomorrow (Fri) after sending the kids to school. This is a sort of De Javu. I was in a similar situation not too long ago. Going to the same hospital to join Joyce.... This time however it's for her post-operation care, so I feel less anxious. The kids are doing great and going well about with their routines. While I'd be gone over the weekend, they will be well taken care of. Justin, CRWM partner missionary, will be staying with boys at our house. Mary will go to stay with missionary Hwang family (they have two young daughters who can't get enough of Mary).
If all goes well, Joyce and I will be able to return home next Monday. Pray for no delay. Then for the recovery and adjustment.... We are entering the hot season (i.e. stressful time of the year). Joyce will take a break from her teaching duty for a while. Still, I will need to pick up more (literally!) for Joyce and family, in addition to various ministry activities and preparation for our home service coming up in June. Pray for grace and patience.
As I was waiting for a news this morning, the Lord comforted me with these words of Ps. 17:7-8: "Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes. Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings." I was surprised by another De Javu--the image of His protective wings. This is a powerful assurance for us all who are vulnerable and in need of His salvation in many different ways. Definitely for me and my family in this time of trial. But also for many others, including our suffering brothers and sisters near and far.
Thank you for standing with us. We feel so loved and supported by you all.
with grateful hearts, Gil & Joyce (David, Isaac and Mary) Suh
